Rechtsanwältin Barkin Timtik wurde gestern bei der Ausübung ihres Berufs im Cemevi Istanbul Kurucesme brutal zusammen mit Mandant*innen festgenommen. Sie wird gesetzeswidrig in der Polizeiwache Kirac festgehalten. Der zuständige Staatsanwalt sagt, er wüsste nichts von der Festnahme... Die Anwaltskollegen von Timtik sind besorgt um ihre Gesundheit, da sie "wissen, dass auf der Polizeiwache gefoltert wird". Barkin Timtik und alle anderen Festgenommenen müssen sofort und unversehrt freigelassen werden!

TO THE PRESS AND PUBLIC
THE ATTACKS AGAINST LAWYERS INCREASE ON DAILY BASIS
At noon today the board member of our association, lawyer Barkin Timtik was arrested during the meal of condolences of a clients family at the Cemevi (Alevite's Community House).
Dozens of police entered the Cemevi in Büyükckmece Kurucesme with gas bombs and arrested all persons who joined the meal.
Dozens of people, among them lawyer Barkin Timtik were dragged to the ground and brought to the police car.
Lawyer Barkin Timtik is still held at the police station Esenyurt.. Her arrest and the arrest of her clients is totally arbitrary and unacceptable.
It is remarkable in terms of indicating what we have to face as well as the level which was reached under the so-called „EMERGENCY STATE“, that even people are attacked by police with gas bombs within a religious institution while having a meal of condolences.
On the other side our member of the Adana branch, lawyer Tugay Bek, who has been kept at police headquarters of Adana for 4 days, was taken to forensic medical institute for forensic inspection with handcuffs on his back. He was attacked by dozens of anti-riot-forces..
Due to the torture marks of the blows are visible on his face, head and several sections of his body.
At the reached level also lawyers are daily confronted with police violence and arrested as well.
We warn: take off your hands from the lawyers. End the torture. We remind:
You will give account for every crime that you commit. None of your repression and violent practices can ever intimidate us.
Our lawyer colleagues Barkin Timtik and Tugay Bek aren't alone. We will continue to be a follower of this case until you release our colleagues.
This injust arrest, which is without any legal basis must be stopped and our colleagues have to be released immediately.
As Progressive Lawyers Association we call on the public to show solidarity with our arrested colleagues.
