Dear Comrades and Friends,
This week’s selection of articles from revcom.us sharply focuses on the burning issues of the current and fast moving dynamics of the current political conjuncture. These articles lay bare the crucial elements of the race against time where the fascist Trump-Pence very dangerously escalates its moves to consolidate its grip on power in a major attempt to make yet another leap to fascism by sending militarized police forces to major cities of protests and rebellion.
Bob Avakian, the architect of new communism as the new framework for human emancipation, critically analyzes with exceptional analytical clarity and rigor the reformist illusions – such as “defunding” or even “dismantling” the police – that circulates among the wide array of forces rising up and struggling against the institutionalized white supremacy and police terror. “Police and Prison: Reformist Illusions and the Revolutionary Solution” by Bob Avakian lays bare, as he puts, “...the basic reasons that, under this system there will be no ‘dismantling’ or real ‘defunding’ of (or changing of the essential role) of the police and no meaningful shifting of priorities and funds into the social needs of the people now violently targeted by the police.” Avakian concisely demonstrates that “this system … cannot be ‘pressured’ to become other than what it is” and “it can function only in accordance with its fundamental nature, requirements and dynamics.” And based on the same actual reality Bob Avakian pervasively argues that “all this can be ended – not, however under this system, but only through the revolution to abolish this whole system and bring a radically different and much better system into being.” The fact is this revolution will not come about sometime in the future by itself or “magically” but BA insists that “this revolution must be actively, consciously and scientifically worked for” in the midst of the struggles fighting the police terror and all the suffering and abuse the system dishes out to the people.
Another article by Bob Avakian “Capitalism-Imperialism – The Suffocation of Seven Billion – and The Profound Need For A World On New Foundations” puts into sharp relief historically out-moded and ‘tremendously wasteful and destructive” nature of this system and “its intolerable consequences” for “the masses of humanity” and the world. This underlines the urgency, possibility and the desirability of revolution to emancipate itself and the potential, all around material and intellectual capacities matured but laid to waste under this worldwide system.
Raymond Lotta’s article, “Four Months Into the Global COVID-19 Health and Economic Crisis… Notes on the Utter Cruelty and Obscene Irrationality of Capitalism-Imperialism” incisively looks into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the imperialist structure of the world economy and the people of the world with its current dynamics and most salient contradictions. With synoptic reflections Lotta exposes the current material conditions, the world traveling outcry which urgently calls for the the world to “rise on new foundations” that Bob Avakian’s article forcefully articulates.
Episode 18 of the RNL Show “The Truth about Black soliders in America’s war against Vietnam?...Not in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods” presents a piercing indictment of this state affairs in the world where the crimes of the particular US strain of capitalism and imperialism as perpetrated during its genocidal war in Vietnam and the historical role, significance and the lessons of the resistance – specifically of black soldiers – against it. A discussion of the serious errors and misleading portrayal of this history is extremely timely and bears important insights for the current struggle being waged today.
