The only answer to the police murders is united resistance
Once again the bourgeois democracy has shown its real face in Greece. On December 6, the police killed the 16 years old Aleksandros Andreas Grigoropulos during a political demonstration in Athens. This act of murder shows that the bourgeoisie is not only attacking the democratic rights and freedoms but also not shrinking back from killing the sons and daughters of our peoples openly in the street.
Together with the deepening economic crisis also all kind of repression against the workers and labourers will continue to increase. However, the courageous Greek people did not silently agree to the police murder and the left movement of Greece responded immediately and in a militant way to the police terror demanding the resignation of the government. The protest actions spread all over the country and are still going on. The labouring masses and young antifascists took bravely to the streets, attacked buildings of the government and police stations, occupied universities and the schools remained closed. The Greek government, faced with a political, social and economic crisis anyway, is now even discussing to declare the state of emergency.
Violation of democratic rights up to police murders in the street are not only happening in Greece, but also in other Balkan countries, as in Turkey. After the police got the unlimited authorization to kill with the reforms of the “Law on Powers and Tasks of the Police” in June 2007, the serial murders and injuries are increasing tremendously in Turkey.
We, the Conference of Communist and Workers’ Parties of the Balkans express our full solidarity with the Greek people resisting militantly with all means against the police terror.
We strongly condemn the assassination of the young Greek by the police and demand the sentencing of those responsible!
We call upon all the progressive, anti-imperialist, revolutionary and communist forces to protest against this act of arbitrary and oppression; to organise actions at the Greek embassies in their countries and express their solidarity with the Greek people resisting with all means against the crimes of the bourgeois state and demanding justice.
