The debate last night is being massively misinterpreted by the liberal mainstream, lulling people to sleep – at exactly the time when we need to be waking up and waking up others. For instance, the BBC this morning portrayed the debate as a “mild win” for Biden, mainly because in their opinion Trump railed and ranted and showed his extremist colours and so failed to reach the “middle” voters he needs to get an electoral majority. This misses the critical point being hammered at by Bob Avakian and on the revcom.us site that Trump is not basing himself on going through the “normal channels”, including normal parliamentary democracy. Everything he’s done has been about breaking that and establishing a qualitatively new form of rule in capitalist America – fascism! In other words, his intervention was all about revving up his “base” and especially the hardcore fascists like the Proud Boys, whom he not only refused to renounce, but outright supported.
